Football History
The most famous of these sports worldwide is football, more commonly known as just "football" or "soccer".The origin of the game ‘Football’ predates the recorded history. Documented evidence, a manual of Chinese military during the Han Dynasty in about 2nd century BC, describes an organized activity resembling football. It was known as ‘Cuju’, which connected kicking a leather ball through a hole in a piece of silk cloth strung between two "thirty" foot poles.
In the Middle Ages saw a huge rise in popularity of annual Shrovetide football matches throughout Europe, particularly in England. The game played in England at this time may have arrived with the Roman profession, but the only pre-Norman reference is to boys playing "ball games" in the ninth century historia brittonum.
